The Green Lantern

Ryan Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan where a green ring finds him and gives him power to protect the Earth against an evil force that feeds off fear.

Typical of most action films in the summer season, this is a fun popcorn flick to catch and escape the summer heat (when heat finally reaches Vancouver possibly next week).  The CGI is pretty cool but otherwise the story structure is fairly standard and leaves the typical sequel tidbit. Reynolds does a great job combing his charm as well as sincerity when he finally accepts his new responsibilities. Some of his speeches are a little muddled though and there's something about the green mask that we thankfully don't see too much of.
