Travel Bugs - a cold destination in the winter

We've all seen those commercials in the wintertime depicting people looking out at a dark sky 4pm in the afternoon and crying, and wanting to go on vacation.  Everyone wants to go travel for different reasons, and while for some it is to escape the cold and dark, there are those really great reasons to go somewhere just as cold if not colder.

Despite it being winter right now, I would love to do a Scandinavian trip, exploring Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Denmark. Had I more time, I would add The Netherlands to that list, and then I could go on =).  Why some of the extreme north of Europe you ask? Well, sometimes there are good things about the cold and short days.  Everyone says to visit Scandinavia in July and August, when the countries are at their warmest and with the longest days, and while I agree it would be smart to go then, perhaps it's better to say they are places to go twice - one in the summer and once in the winter, as can be true with several other destinations.

Now, I while I can't speak for the other countries on this travel itinerary I one day would like to embark on, I have done some research on Norway.  From late December til about March, there are ice hotels that one can visit where everything is made of ice and breathtakingly beautiful.  More than just ice hotels, winter is a chance to see the fjords encased in ice, glistening in the sunlight. Then there are the Northern Lights to look forward to, and let's not forget Norwegian food and drink.  This makes me want to hop on a plane even to tour Norway itself in a week.

It's nice to dream, but one day, I will be there, and an updated post along with pictures to share =)
