The Boathouse - Richmond
$28 or $38
Destination: Boathouse Richmond just off River Road. I'd been to the English Bay location years ago, so this was sort of something new. We were celebrating a friend's birthday tonight, so this was the most people I'd been to dine out with.

A variety of starters, one friend ordered off the $38 - thai crab cakes. I played it safe with the west coast chowder (bypassing the firecracker shrimp and caesar salad). It was nice, but being the Boathouse, you can't exactly go wrong with a chowder. The seafood was fairly plentiful and tasty.

Mains: The majority of us ordered the steak topped with lobster thermidor, though I think I did spy a cedar plank fish sampler down the table. Another friend ordered the Louisiana Lobster Pot, which was pretty massive and required a lot of work to get at the meat inside the various shells. I ordered my steak the usual medium rare, though it came out a bit bloody for a medium rare. No harm done though, I'd learned in the past (especially with so much steak - 10oz) it's better to cut it up the restaurant, box it, and microwave it the next day for lunch. The mashed potatoes were the norm, but the lobster thermidor was yummy (though limited) with the shrimps.

Dessert: You name it, we ordered it. With 10 people, it was quite easy for us to order all 3 varieties. The majority once again going with the mud pie and the espresso creme brulee, and a cheesecake or two thrown in. The mud pie was okay, mostly mocha ice cream. You definitely can't part a girl from dessert though (especially ice cream). Despite not finishing the main, you bet I finished my dessert.
Food: good
Service: very good
Recommend: sure - it's the Boathouse, and it's definitely value with the Dine Out menu
