$28 / Asian Street Food
Alas, the end of dine out 2011. It's been 8 set meals over 13 days (not including CNY dinners). Being my last dine out, The Flying Tiger ended the event on a good note. We made our reservations very last minute, right before we headed there after a day of filming and were greeted with a very relaxed atmosphere that takes us into almost the feeling of a local hippish cafe somewhere in Asia.
For starters, we ordered the prawns and braised ribs to share. While the prawns were slightly spicy but yummy, the ribs were fairly good, a little bit sweet but tender as the meat could be sliced from the bone fairly easily.
Mains were the sablefish, and the pulled duck confit crepes. The crepes were quite oily though in combination with the duck and various thinly sliced cucumbers and squash, was a good combination. Neither dish was very large though, however we spotted the mumbai chaat masala at the next table that was a very good size. Instead we ordered roti canai to add on. The Malaysian yellow curry was extremely deliciously and probably the best part of the meal. The roti was a bit on the flaky side, but otherwise good.
Dessert, we went for the Warm Coconut Sticky Rice with pineapples and vanilla ice cream and condensed milk. Served over (I think it was banana) leaves, it was an interesting combination of sweet and salty. You could dip the sticky rice into the ice cream which gave a sensation of warm and cold, while the condensed milk added a bit more sweetness, and the pineapple somewhat refreshing or also coatable with ice cream. A differenct choice from our usual fare.
Food: good
Service: good
Recommend: yes, it's a bit different and with the addition of the roti, quite filling and good experience overall. Their dine out menu I believe is held over to tomorrow. Otherwise I'm not sure if I'd come back at regular prices.
