Late Night Comfort Food

Having sampled the relaxing but creative flair of Society Lounge, it was a return to this restaurant for some late night comfort food and conversation with friends. By late night, I mean 9pm-11pm as the kitchen does close after that I believe, at least on the patio. Society is proud of taking comfort foods and dressing them a bit (see my previous post on Society ). It does get quite noisy inside, but the patio is great during the summer.  Watching hockey games? They've got a giant pull down screen inside.

This trip back had us choosing off the regular menu (something I've thought about since last time). With a good selection of spiked milkshakes, appies and pizzas, we were generally spoiled for choice.

The Night Rider was refreshing for a milk shake, light and smooth with the baileys, espresso and chocolate - though you don't really taste the espresso at all and easy on the chocolate.  Just one of several creative concoctions. There's also a selection of non-alcoholic milkshakes beyond your usual strawberry vanilla chocolate and cappuccino.

Calamari once again a choice here but different. Society's calamari is slightly spicy on the batter, good for those who like squid with a little kick in it. There wasn't much squid taste though.  Next time, I think we might go with the mussels and french fries.

Pizza - this is where I'd rather spend a bit more and get better quality and variety than the "Vancouver" Pizza, Pizza Hut and Fresh Slice's that are sprinkled throughout the city. It is small though - only 6 slices so you can eat it as a meal if you're hungry. The Wild Mushroom comes topped with roasted garlic, goat's cheese and scallions. By far the best pizza so far (the former was at Incendio). Scrumptious with oozing goat's cheese underneath tasty mushrooms, this is the one to get.

I'm curious to try the other pizzas too, especially the staple Hawaiian. With the possible combinations of pizza and milkshake, it's worth trip after trip back. One other thing we need to sample next time, their dessert platter is calling out the kid in you with it's cone of cotton candy and more adult favorites of which I cannot name right now, but keep an eye out on the blog when this gets sampled.

For those curious, here's the menu . So change it up a bit in the later evening and try this hotspot at the south end of Yaletown on Hamilton.
