Captain America

Chris Evans stars as Steve Rogers, a scrawny kid from Brooklyn, who is handpicked for a secret experiment during World War II - a procedure that buffs him up and turns him into some kind of superhuman (or really enhanced human), a hero that can be very real.  After becoming a show piece for the senator to raise funds, Rogers leaps into action upon hearing his childhood friend James Barnes (Sebastian Stan) was captured in battle. Following a successful rescue, Rogers and his team continues to take out their enemy, Johanne Schmidt (Hugo Weaving), leading to final standoff between Rogers and Schmidt, both enhanced.

Not a film I would take initiative to watch, but if I didn't, I honestly would have missed out.  Way better than Harry Potter, Captain America packs not only loaded action sequences but also a thrilling and emotional rollercoaster that will leave you wanting more. Evans leads the cast in a solid outstanding performance, finding great range between the scrawny boy and the warrior he becomes.  Overall, a great performance by the whole cast. Hugo Weaving has definitely found his niche playing the evil villain (remember Smith, "Mr Anderson..."  Thankfully that only came briefly to mind.  Tommy Lee Jones is at his usual playing the colonel, extremely fitting, while Dominic Cooper takes a good spin as Howard Stark.  Stanley Tucci is almost unrecognizable as Dr Erskine.

I hear this film is only in 3D, and if there was a 2D option, I would definitely recommend paying the extra dollars and put those glasses on. Great effects and use of the 3D technology as it furthers the action in leaping off the screen. With a great score to boot as well, this was well worth it!  It does get quite pro-American during the war bonds sequence, but oh well, understandable.

There are only 2 things I didn't like about it, but I'm not going to tell you - you'll know what I mean.

4.5/5
