Dolphin Tale is based on the true story of a dolphin who lost his tail in a crab trap and the boy who helped him become whole again with a prosthetic tail. Sawyer is a 10 year old boy who never quite fit in. His closest friend was his cousin Kyle, a swimming star about to leave for a tour of duty. Sawyer's discovery and connection with Winter, the injured dolphin, stirs him an interest for dolphins. At first Winter is reluctant to listen to the trainers and doctors at the marine hospital, but responds to Sawyer, slowly rebuilding strength but harming her spine as she adapts to swimming without a tail.
When Kyle returns home from an explosion and requires a leg brace, Sawyer's visit inspires him to get a prosthetic for Winter. In the meantime, he also has to encourage Kyle to regain his sense of self and find something else he is passionate about. At the same time, the marine hospital is on the verge of bankruptcy and must find a buyer. Sawyer and his friend Hazel launch one last fundraiser to save the hospital as they help Winter.
A very touching film that will delight all audiences. Its young stars Nathan Gamble (Sawyer) and Cozi Zuehlsdorff (Hazel) shine in their roles, but it is Winter (who plays herself) that steals the show. This film is available in 3D and 2D, and may be worth watching in 3D, featuring some underwater sequences of dolphin play.
