There are always films that gently pique my interest that I would normally not end up watching, but for those I do, I am always happily surprised.
The Sandman - Switzerland
As described in the guide, this is a surreal fairytale where a man discovers he is leaking sand. He fights it, he accepts it, he wants to fix it, all while we realize he needs to understand and change. It can also be described as a romantic comedy (well, not your typical romantic comedy, but you'll see what I mean) that draws a dash of Benjamin Button, a touch of King Midas and a pinch of Pinocchio. It's a bit dry to start but builds on the story. Well played, fun and hilarious but sweet as we go along for the ride.
4.5/5 plays Sunday October 2nd at 8pm, Saturday October 8 at 9pm and Tuesday October 11th at 1140am
Film #2 for me today was Taiwan's Honey Papu.
A strange philosophical affair about love and disappearance. Trippy is the word I would used to describe it. The film is about a group of people who meet online and then in the real world as they contemplate disappearance and love. There are 2 main storylines: the love triangle between Assassin, Cheesebaby and Cola, as well as Vicky's search for Dog. There's an interesting mix of dream, the virtual world and the real world, visually, but some may find the narrative confusing. If you have a pass with nothing to see, maybe check out a bit of it, otherwise, I'd suggest something else.
